Dutch-Hungarian meeting at the Chamber on sustainable mobility and battery innovation
The visit of the Dutch business and innovation delegation to Debrecen was successful, focusing on future transport, sustainable mobility and the development of the international battery value chain.
At the business forum held at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Hajdú-Bihar County on 10th June, 2026 the sector’s most significant Dutch and Hungarian market players, researchers and decision-makers discussed future investment and technological cooperation opportunities.
The international professional program was opened by Péter Nagy, General Vice President of HBKIK, who highlighted the extraordinary industrial dynamism of Debrecen and the region in his speech and emphasized that the region has now become one of the most important hubs for European electric mobility. Afterwards, His Excellency Willem Alexander van Ee, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Hungary, welcomed the attendees. The Ambassador emphasized the importance of strengthening economic and knowledge-based relations between the two countries.
At the event, on behalf of the Debrecen municipality, Mayor Dr. László Papp, and on behalf of the EDC Debrecen Urban and Economic Development Center, Managing Director Zoltán Pécskay, gave a presentation on the Debrecen economic ecosystem, the infrastructural successes to date, and future investment opportunities.
A special guest was Uwe Michallik, Head of Production Energy Module at BMW Group Plant Debrecen. The expert introduced the latest technological processes of local energy module production and demonstrated how the Debrecen plant contributes to BMW’s global sustainability and electrification strategy.
In the second half of the forum, the innovative companies of the Dutch delegation were given the floor, covering different areas of the battery value chain, from research and development to precision manufacturing to recycling. The private, bilateral (B2B) business meetings provided an excellent opportunity for Dutch and Hajdú-Bihar companies to establish direct partnerships, laying the foundation for future joint projects.
