The government wants all major cities to be attainable, at least by small aircraft, the Parliamentary Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Levente Magyar said.

Magyar highlighted that the essential backbone of the Hungarian economy is provided by the network of cities with county status, so the government wants to work more closely with local leaders in their development. The Secretary of State asked the mayors to draw up airport development plans or hand over existing ones to the ministry.

But further developments are not only expected at the smaller rural airports, but also at Budapest Airport. At the country’s main airport, a low-cost terminal was handed over in January, and now a new airline has also arrived in the country: during the summer months, Luxair will start a direct Budapest-Luxembourg flight, starting on August 10th this year. The schedule of the seasonal flight is favorable for both short city visits and longer trips. Luxair will travel to Luxembourg twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, during the summer season.
