In Croatia, according to the current legislation on freight traffic, drivers of lorries arriving from Hungary are not required to undergo quarantine or self-isolation if the time period between the time of entry and the time of departure from the country does not exceed 24 hours and the driver does not leave the cabin of the lorry. In case the above time limit is not sufficient and the stay in the country exceeds 24 hours:
- the employer must arrange for the driver to be accommodated in a place where he can be isolated during his rest period;
- where possible, rest periods should be spent in the cabin of the lorry
Several Hungarian cargo carriers have reported to the Hungarian Embassy in Zagreb that they have encountered problems entering the country. These disruptions were caused, in particular, by health regulations which were interpreted contradictory by the Croatian police at the border crossing.
The Embassy has requested a formal statement from the Croatian Ministry of Interior regarding its provisions on freight traffic. The confirming reply of the Croatian Ministry of Interior:
“- the driver may continue to carry out transport operations without undergoing self-isolation or quarantine if the driver does not leave the vehicle in the territory of the Republic of Croatia;
– the same procedure shall apply to all border crossing points in international transport of goods between Hungary and the Republic of Croatia;
– there are currently no restrictions on the type of goods intended for import and export. ‘
