270 billion forints in interest-free EU loan funding awaits Hungarian SMEs
Interest-free EU loan funding totaling 270 billion forints awaits Hungarian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) under the Ábrahám Ganz Program, Minister of Economy and Energy István Kapitány announced on Wednesday (14/09/2026) in a video message posted on his Facebook page.
The goal is for these funds to benefit enterprises that wish to develop but have previously been held back by a lack of working capital or the burden of loan interest, he said.
He noted that in September, approximately 800 tourism businesses—mostly in rural areas—were able to access development funding of 10 million forints each.
He stated that the program is now being extended to the entire SME sector—covering both Budapest and rural areas, and ranging from micro-enterprises to medium-sized companies.
He explained that the program is being implemented in two stages: the first targets those who have already submitted applications for working capital loans, with the loan facility for this group being increased by 30 billion forints.
The second stage focuses on development; businesses looking to purchase machinery, expand operations, digitize, or improve energy efficiency can access zero-interest investment loans. For larger investments, suppliers and exporters can access up to 1 billion forints in funding. Applications can be submitted at MFB Pont Plusz offices, and interested parties can find detailed information on the Hungarian Development Bank’s website, the minister noted.
