The European Commission has launched a public consultation on a new draft regulation regarding the revision of the public procurement directives. The initiative aims to make public procurement a more effective strategic investment tool, while giving preference to European products and simplifying procedures.

This revision will:

  • enable preference to be given to European products in public procurement, helping to ensure EU added value and secure the supply of vital technologies, products and services
  • also modernise and simplify procurement rules, while making public procurement a tool for strategic investment.

The size of the European procurement market, equivalent to about 15% of EU GDP, is evidence of the clear potential of a coordinated EU approach in efficiently channelling investment in line with EU strategic priorities, while promoting a level playing field and ensuring fair competition in the Single Market.
