Looking for new investments: German businessmen visited the Chamber in Debrecen – video

Another German interest; this time, a ministerial delegation from the Rhineland-Palatinate region arrived in Debrecen accompanied by businessmen. During the Business Forum which was held in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Hajdú-Bihar County on the occasion of the arrival of a German delegation, Lajos Barcsa, Vice- Mayor of Debrecen, presented the economic opportunities of Debrecen. According to the arriving German foreign trade experts, the automotive industry could be the main area for co-operation with companies in Debrecen.

Thyssenkrupp, Krones, Continental and BMW – four large companies that have decided to build a factory in Debrecen in recent years. Germany has a constant interest in the city. On Wednesday, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Hajdú-Bihar County welcomed the representatives of the Economic Ministry of the Rhineland-Palatinate Region.

– Germany is Hungary’s most important economic partner and we believe that there is still a further chance for development, just like in every good partnership. We hope that meetings like this will result in further investments, business relationships and supplier opportunities – explained Secretary General Éva Skultéti.

The Head of the German delegation said they were happy to visit Debrecen.

In the Rhineland-Palatinate region, chemistry and automotive parts production are predominantly important, therefore, they are looking for cooperation opportunities for such companies.

– For our province, the Eastern European Region, including Hungary, is very important. We currently have one and a half billion euros of foreign trade activity with Hungary annually, and we want to increase this in the future, said Franz Seiss, Foreign Trade Referent of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Rhineland-Palatinate Region.

Lajos Barcsa, Vice-Mayor, highlighted the importance of the international airport and the economic zones that are currently under construction, and drew attention to the development of education, which will ensure a skilled workforce in Debrecen. According to him, the city as a region centre could be the place of new investments. – Such project can be the joint development of the airport, but we are looking for opportunities for co-operation in other areas as well. Obviously, it is also important for small and medium-sized enterprises to find the links German companies and representatives in order to explore the possible areas of co-operation – explained Lajos Barcsa.

Ákos Pintér, General Vice Rector of the University of Debrecen said that their institution is a bridge between businesses and the city.

– From an educational point of view, obviously, a relationship works if both sides benefit. We allow German companies into education, we can advertise various special colleges and different semesters. That is good for the university, as our students gain a broader knowledge and good for the companies as well, because they can hire well-trained workers – explained Ákos Pintér.

In addition to the presentations at the business forum, the German and Hungarian entrepreneurs also attended b2b meetings.
